Dharmendra: Icon of Generations

Today, the Indian film industry marks the closing of a luminous chapter with the passing of Dharmendra at the age of 89. His death was confirmed on November 24, 2025 at his residence in Mumbai.

Dharmendra’s journey in Indian cinema spanned more than six decades, and he appeared in over 300 films, making indelible contributions to the world of Hindi cinema. Early in his career, he played roles that ranged from the romantic hero to the rugged action star, and he became affectionately known as Bollywood’s “He-Man”.

One of the major milestones of his career was his role in Sholay (1975), which remains one of India’s most iconic films; his portrayal helped cement his legacy in mainstream Indian film history.

Beyond his on-screen achievements, Dharmendra also stepped into public service, representing the Bikaner constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009.

In the days leading up to his passing, he was reportedly discharged from hospital and recuperating at home after facing health complications. His death therefore closes the final curtain on an era — one filled with charisma, versatility and enduring presence.

While fans and colleagues have begun reflecting on his body of work and the many memorable characters he brought to life, the tone here is one of respectful acknowledgement rather than sorrow. His life and career remain a tribute to craft, perseverance and breadth of performance.
